Barnes & Noble in-store bookfair

Barnes and Noble, Woodland Hills is hosting an in-store bookfair starting Monday, April 13-Sunday, April 19 to benefit Taft High School. Pick up a voucher at the cashier's desk. Titles are available for several of the Passport to Reading authors/illustrators. Bring them for autographing on Saturday, April 18.

Opening ceremonies at 10:30am. The first author session starts at 11:00am. The second session starts at 12:00 noon. Two panel discussion will be held at 1:30pm followed by autographing until 3:00pm.

Middle School, High School/Adult Panel

Join the following authors in a panel discussion where authors will share their writing process, books that influenced them growing up, their path towards a writing career, sharing their writing process, their favorite books and upcoming projects too.

The audience will be able to submit questions too!

K-5 Author Panel

A K-5 Author/Illustrator Panel will be held in the Annex. Authors/illustrators will respond to questions about how they became a writer, books that influenced them, how they find inspiration for their characters, their writing process and their favorite books. Some may describe the self-publishing process as well.

The Audience will have an opportunity to ask questions too!

I've Got Music Flowing Through My Soul, is the title of Debbie Diss' first CD, who has lived her life doing what she loves most, being with children, singing, playing guitar and teaching. Ms. Diss will have your K-5th grade students (and parents) engaged through singing and using percussion instruments in this hands-on session filled with music. Session I: The Ins and Outs of Self Publishing (with illustrator Suzanne Gibson)
We will talk about the pros and cons of self-publishing, how to choose a company to work with, what the process is like and more. We will bring examples from the process of publishing Imagination: A Journey of the Mind, a rhyming, richly illustrated book geared toward pre- and early readers. Audience questions will be incorporated.

Session II: How to Illustrate the Written Word
We will show the illustrator's process of bringing words to life through drawing. We will use examples from Imagination: A Journey of the Mind, a rhyming, richly illustrated book geared toward pre- and early readers. We'll also involve the audience in the process, asking audience members for words to ilustrate as well as for their interpretations as to how they would illustrate someone else's words.
